Los Andes moved up from tenth to fifth place: this makes it the only higher education institute in Colombia to have made this scale´s top-ten ranking, which calculates 81 universities in Latin America.
The fact that Times Higher Education made the calculation is the most important factor for the rector of Los Andes – Pablo Navas, as it is “a company that has an outward-looking vision, and, above all, that measured us using the same standards as all other universities on an international level”.
The THE classification of universities is based on the measurement of teaching methods, quality of teachers, international outlooks, research, etc.
“Perhaps Los Andes is the university that has had the most international outlook throughout its history”. When analyzing the reasons why the university has climbed the rankings in 2017, the rector explains that teachers and students undertake their doctoral studies abroad.
He also explains that, in terms of research and quality, 72% of the teaching staff have a PhD, and there are nearly 500 students currently doing doctoral studies in the university.
In addition to the THE ranking, QS University Rankings places the Universidad de los Andes in eighth place in Latin America and 256th on a global level.
