The Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, resigned from his post on August 28, becoming the president who has been in office the longest. During his almost 8 years in power, he positioned Japan as a country of great importance on the international scene and made important efforts to get closer to Latin America, including the fact that he is the only Japanese prime minister to have visited Colombia. This conference seeks to give an overview of the current political situation in Japan, after the resignation of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. His legacy in the international arena will be explored, and the impact that his departure may have on the Colombia-Japan bilateral relationship, under the new leadership of the new prime minister Yoshihide Suga.
