Frequently asked questions

The Universidad de los Andes’ strategic objectives and its different faculties have the important goal of generating a greater impact in the regions and, therefore, contributing to the university’s development and progress while strengthening its international projection and its leadership position in higher education in Latin America. As such, it is necessary to expand the boundaries of the programs and increase the impact that the Universidad de los Andes has outside its campus in Bogotá.
Cartagena is a city that has enormous potential both nationally and internationally. It is also an attractive global and regional tourist destination, which facilitates visiting foreign professors and students. However, the city has many different social and economic problems that are an important challenge for the country and the Universidad de los Andes. Therefore, the university is looking to positively bolster development in the city and the region through offering excellent and relevant courses that create human talent together with international projection to create solutions and generate a positive impact on the development and progress of society. Other dimensions of academic work will also be undertaken such as research, consulting, and public service.
The Universidad de los Andes does not plan to compete with other universities in the Caribbean region. On the contrary, its plan is to strengthen the current range of courses with postgraduate and further education academic programs and executive education that adhere to international standards.
In terms of the possibilities available, and building on common interests, alliances with other institutions in the region will be established to address and resolve different issues from an educational perspective. An example of this is the Regional Academic Panel that was held on May 11th, 2018: the Universidad del Atlántico, the Universidad de Cartagena, the Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Caribbean campus), the Universidad del Norte, the Universidad San Buenaventura Cartagena, the Universidad del Sinú (Caribbean campus), and the Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar were all in attendance.

The university’s faculties will offer high-quality academic programs in Cartagena that are aligned with international standards in both further and executive education for middle and high-level management (both national and international). In the future, post-graduate programs (post-graduate diplomas and Master’s degrees) will be offered based on the needs of the city and the Caribbean region. Additionally, corporate education programs have been designed and offered in different disciplines that address the particular needs and challenges of each organization in the region in a globalized and highly competitive environment. The Universidad de los Andes’ new campus is looking to positively contribute to the development of the city and the region by offering important academic courses that create human talent with an international projection, which encourages solutions and generates a positive impact on society.
Professors from the university can undertake applied research to analyze and understand the region’s different problems as well as carrying out consulting projects to identify opportunities to improve and develop. They can also actively participate in spaces for analysis and decision-making for which the city and the region believe that the university can be of assistance.
